Located close to the historic downtown area, with easy access to our local tour train, wineries, and the spectacular Royal Gorge of the Arkansas River, A Step Back Inn is a great starting point for your Colorado adventure.

Cañon City offers a wide variety of outdoor recreation, from world-renown whitewater rafting on the Arkansas River to miles of biking and hiking trails through town and out into the Royal Gorge. Often referred to as the Banana Belt of Colorado, Cañon City and the surrounding area enjoy a warm climate that is often 10 degrees warmer than the surrounding area.

World class skiing, legendary dark skies, great food, and great shopping, are all within easy reach. And spectacular vistas will greet you at seemingly every turn. A Step Back Inn in Cañon City is just two hours from Denver, an hour from Colorado Springs and Pueblo, an hour and a half from skiing at Monarch Mountain or two hours from Breckenridge. The Royal Gorge  bridge is a ten minute drive from the house, and several whitewater rafting companies and Jeep tour groups operate out of Cañon City.

Three local wineries, two small breweries, and a cider works anchor a fantastic variety of food and drink offerings in the region.
